It's not just a matter of learning formulas that will work and then applying them to the guitar. Remember, though, I'm talking about developing skills as an improviser, not as an overall guitar player. I think that first, the music has to be you. Then you look at the guitar as a tool to try to find out how this piece of machinery can help you manifest what it is you already hear - to bring out what you have inside. - Barney Kessel
